Structurally, it is a cylindrical spur gear made of high-strength Steel 45, which often undergoes hardening for maximum wear resistance. It has 17 teeth (z=17), and its key feature is a special machined groove on the hub, which engages with the shifting fork (OVI 06.030). It is with this fork that the control lever physically slides the gear on the shaft, engaging it with different gears on the intermediate shaft.
