Front Travel Sprocket ZM-60 (ZP 01.402)
The sprocket ZP 01.402 is a large steering sprocket that is the main driven element of the steering system of the front travel mechanism (ZP 01.020) of the ZM-60, ZM-60A series grain loaders and their modifications. The main task of this part is to ensure the change of direction of movement (maneuvering) of the massive unit during its operation and movement across the working threshing floor area or warehouse premises.
In the overall kinematic scheme of the assembly, the sprocket receives rotational force via a roller chain from the drive shaft-sprocket ZP 01.330 connected to the steering wheel N 067.027. It transmits the received torque directly to the outer fork ZP 01.050, forcing the entire front strut with the support wheel to rotate around the vertical axis. Structurally, the part is located in the upper part of the strut - the lifting screw ZP 01.070 passes through its central through-hole, and depending on the modification of the machine, a special nut ZP 01.101 or a cast bearing housing acts as the support base for the sprocket.
Design Features and Technical Specifications of the Sprocket ZP 01.402

- Chain pitch: PR-19.05
- Number of teeth: Z=45
- Weight: 4.45 kg
- Quantity per unit: 1 pc.
- Country of manufacture: Ukraine
Visually and structurally, the part is a massive flat disc with a gear ring cut along the outer contour. A large through-hole is provided in the center of the product, ensuring the free passage of the vertical lifting screw without mechanical friction against it during height adjustment. Around the central hole, seating locations are located - smooth through-holes through which the sprocket is rigidly connected to the support base (special nut or bearing housing) using long tie bolts. This entire assembly is tightly pulled to the upper platform of the outer fork, allowing the torque from the steering system to be transmitted directly to the travel strut without losses.
Features of Repair Related to the Sprocket ZP 01.402
The main reason for replacing the steering sprocket is usually the critical wear of its gear ring. Operating in highly dusty conditions turns the mixture of dust and lubricant into an abrasive that gradually thins the teeth, making them sharp - this leads to chain skipping during attempts to turn the unit. Another common problem is the battering of the mounting holes due to operation with loosened fasteners.
When installing a new sprocket ZP 01.402, engineering practice requires a revision of the adjacent parts of the steering drive. Together with this part, the following most often require replacement:
- Steering control chain with a pitch of PR-19.05
- Steering wheel shaft-sprocket ZP 01.330
- Special nut ZP 01.101 (or bearing housing depending on the modification)
- Fasteners (usually M10x80 bolts + nuts/washers/plates)
The comprehensive replacement of these elements is due to the basic mechanics of chain drive operation. Installing a new driven sprocket under an old, stretched chain or a worn drive shaft-sprocket can lead to rapid wear of the new teeth due to a disrupted engagement pitch. In addition to renewing the contact pair, during installation it is important to ensure reliable tightening of the bolts to the support base (special nut). Since the sprocket ZP 01.402 takes on the entire torque for turning the massive front part of the machine, even minimal play in the fastening will quickly provoke the elongation of the mounting holes into an ellipse and the shearing of fasteners. At the final stage of assembly, the alignment (concentricity) of the large and small sprockets is also mandatorily checked - their location in the same plane will eliminate misalignments, excessive friction, and chain biting during unit maneuvering.
Factory Modifications and Compatibility of the Sprocket ZP 01.402
Since the ZM-60 series grain loaders have been produced for decades by different machine-building enterprises, the design of the steering assembly has a number of operational differences. First of all, this concerns the mounting base of the large sprocket ZP 01.402. Depending on the year of manufacture and model, it can be mounted on a massive special nut ZP 01.101 or on a cast bearing housing. Accordingly, the number, diameter, and center-to-center distance of the mounting holes on the sprocket disc sometimes differ from classic blueprints. In addition, with a strictly standardized chain pitch (PR-19.05), sprockets with a different outer diameter and non-standard number of teeth can be found on some units after repairs.
The specialists of the Moroz Plant know these engineering nuances perfectly. We mass-produce classic sprockets that fit most original machines as standard. If your grain loader has atypical mountings, we are ready to promptly adapt the part - accurately change the coordinates of the mounting holes or machine the product according to individual measurements, which will save you the need to remake adjacent support elements.
Here it is worth mentioning our modified sprockets developed for the modernized model of our grain loaders, where the main design advantage is an improved wheel travel fixation mechanism. Unlike the base versions of the ZM-60 and ZM-60A grain loaders, where the direction of movement was blocked by stopping the small drive sprocket, the Moroz Plant has introduced a more effective system of the band brake type. For this purpose, a special metal ring, which acts as a brake drum, is welded to the lower part of the large sprocket disc. A brake band via a lever drive on the frame directly clamps this circle, ensuring braking and rigid fixation of the front travel. Such an engineering solution guarantees strict adherence to the set course of the machine, completely eliminates play or spontaneous turning of the wheel strut under load, and significantly reduces the wear of the chain drive.
The specialists of the Moroz Plant perfectly know all possible engineering nuances. We mass-produce classic sprockets that fit most original machines as standard, as well as their advanced versions with a welded brake ring for modernized ZM-60U units. If your grain loader has atypical mountings or improvements, we are ready to promptly adapt the part to your case - accurately change the coordinates of the mounting holes or machine the product according to individual measurements and additions, which will save you the need to remake adjacent elements.
