ROU-6 Manure Spreader
Maintaining soil fertility is a key task for any farm, and the application of organic fertilizers is the most effective and ecological way to solve it. However, transporting and evenly distributing large volumes of manure or compost by hand is impossible, and it was for the complete mechanization of this process that specialized machines were created - organic fertilizer spreaders, which allow for the quick, effective, and labor-efficient application of fertilizers over large areas.
One of the most well-known and widespread units for this purpose is the classic ROU-6 manure spreader, which is essentially a specialized tractor trailer whose main task is the transportation and mechanized, solid surface application of solid organic fertilizers into the soil. The classic acronym ROU-6, derived from the Soviet term "разбрасыватель органических удобрений" (spreader of organic fertilizers) (6 tons), has become so common that even today it is a generally accepted name for similar equipment on many farms. The name "manure spreader" describes the main function of this machine as accurately as possible, which is to spread manure on the field, and this usually happens as follows:
- The material for application is loaded into the body of the ROU-6 using a front-end loader. This can be a wide range of organic matter: manure, compost, peat, chicken litter, or organic waste - a valuable resource that is abundant on most multi-profile farms.
- The tractor transports the loaded manure spreader to the field. Before starting work, the operator sets the required engine speed for the power take-off (PTO) shaft, which ensures the optimal rotation speed of the spreading drums-beaters (usually 540 rpm). After that, he engages the PTO and starts moving at the selected working speed.
- While in motion, the conveyor on the floor of the ROU-6 body feeds the mass to the working parts - they shred it and spread it in a uniform layer over the soil surface. In this way, valuable nutrients are returned to the earth, which is the basis for a future high yield.
We have described this classic process in such detail for a reason, as our engineers have made improvements to enhance each stage of the work, significantly increasing the reliability and efficiency of the ROU-6.
ROU-6 from Zavod Moroza - an improved organic fertilizer spreader trailer
Zavod Moroza has taken the time-tested design as a basis and significantly refined it, focusing on the key units. Here are the main changes that distinguish our model:
- Tandem axle suspension
- Updated spreading mechanism (beaters)
- Accelerated unloading
- Protective front mesh
- Durable sides
- Reliable bearing assemblies
- Reinforced drive elements
- Optional rear tailgate
The improvements implemented by Zavod Moroza are primarily aimed at increasing productivity and the quality of the main task's execution. The installation of a tandem axle allows the machine to operate more stably at high speeds and in difficult field conditions, reducing the time required for the work; moreover, it exerts less pressure on the soil, which prevents its compaction. The updated spreading mechanism with an optimized beater design guarantees better shredding and a significantly more uniform distribution of fertilizers over the soil surface. The accelerated unloading system, made possible by modernizing the conveyor drive, shortens the overall work cycle time, which directly impacts the number of hectares processed per work shift.
Understanding that an organic fertilizer spreader trailer works with aggressive materials and under high loads, we have paid special attention to the strength and durability of the design. The ROU-6 of our production has reinforced sides, made of thicker metal and with additional stiffening ribs, which are resistant to deformation and corrosion. All drive elements, including chains, shafts, and slats, have been reinforced to withstand high loads without the risk of breakage. The decision to use reliable bearing assemblies at key points has ensured the stable operation of the mechanisms and significantly extended the overall service life of the machine, greatly reducing its maintenance costs.
The design of the ROU-6 produced by Zavod Moroza is thought out to the smallest detail to make the work as effective, safe, and versatile as possible. A protective front mesh reliably shields the tractor cabin and operator from stones or other hard objects that might get into the spreading mechanism. Another important advantage is the option to install a rear tailgate - it allows for the quick conversion of the specialized machine into a universal trailer for transporting silage, haylage, and other bulk cargo. This significantly expands the functionality of your equipment and unloads much better through the method of horizontal unloading using the floor conveyor. Unlike a dump truck, which dumps the mass in one pile, this method forms a uniform windrow, which greatly simplifies and speeds up the subsequent leveling and compaction of silage.
Practical use of the ROU-6 manure spreader from Zavod Moroza on the farm
The Zavod Moroza team includes specialists who have worked in agriculture for many years, including with ROU-6 type manure spreaders. Based on this experience, we have gathered several practical recommendations for you that will help you use this machine as effectively as possible:
- The right tractor for effective work
We recommend a tractor of traction class 1.4 (with a power of ~80 hp), for example, the MTZ-82, as the optimal choice for the ROU-6. Such a combination guarantees operation with the necessary power reserve in any, even the most difficult, conditions. At the same time, we know of numerous cases of successful use of our ROU-6 with less powerful tractors, such as the T-40 (class 0.9, ~50 hp). Partial loading, favorable field conditions, and a light type of fertilizer (e.g., loose compost) do indeed make it possible to do the work and are an acceptable solution for small farms. However, it is worth remembering that operating at the limit of its capabilities leads to increased fuel consumption, accelerated wear, and a potential decrease in spreading efficiency. But as for the ROU-6 produced by Zavod Moroza - we have implemented changes that maximally compensate for these compromises and make the work more effective. Our tandem running gear significantly reduces the tractive load, allowing even a weaker tractor to work more stably and productively, and the improved working parts and drive elements reduce the load on the power take-off shaft, making the work even easier and more economical.
- Minimal downtime
In the autumn, use the ROU-6 for its direct purpose - for applying organic matter. And after that, by removing the spreading mechanism and installing a solid rear tailgate (an option provided for by the design), you can turn the ROU-6 into a full-fledged self-unloading trailer. It can be used to efficiently transport any bulk feed cargo: silage, haylage, pulp, straw, or green mass, as well as sawdust, firewood, or other farm cargo. Thus, one machine works for you effectively almost all year round, performing completely different tasks in spring, summer, and autumn.
- Valuable nitrogen in the soil
One of the greatest values of organic fertilizers is their high nitrogen content, but there is one nuance - in the open air, it quickly evaporates in the form of ammonia. The best way to preserve this valuable element is to plow within a few hours after application, immediately incorporating the fertilizers into the soil. This simple agrotechnical method allows you to save up to 50% of the nitrogen, which, in terms of the cost of mineral fertilizers, is a huge saving for your farm.
- A solution for small farms
It is for small farms that combine crop production with animal husbandry that the ROU-6 is the most rational and profitable acquisition. It performs two key roles at once: on the one hand, it is a universal "dirty" trailer for manure and silage, which allows for compliance with sanitary standards and not contaminating "clean" equipment. On the other hand, it is the main tool that closes the production cycle, returning valuable organic matter from the farm back to the fields to increase their fertility. Add to this the ideal compatibility with the most popular tractor in Ukraine, the MTZ-82, and you get an affordable and indispensable tool for most farmers.
The organic fertilizer spreader trailer from Zavod Moroza is a successful synthesis of a time-tested classic design and important modern improvements. It remains just as simple and reliable, but thanks to our engineering solutions, it has become significantly more durable and effective. Add to this its flexibility in use and the potential for further modernization, and you get not just a machine, but a rational investment in the stable operation of your farm, capable of adapting to new challenges along with the development of your business.
