Daisy Wheel Z-9 (Ratchet Wheel) for Grain Loader Screw ZP 01.070
The 9-tooth gear (Z-9), commonly referred to in engineering and field practice as the "daisy wheel," is an integral operating element of the lifting screw ZP 01.070 in the system of our modernized two-wheel front travel mechanism for ZM series (ZM-60U, ZM-90U, ZM-120U) and ZMB series (ZMB-90U, ZMB-120U) grain loaders, as well as in the single-wheel assemblies of classic ZM-60/60A models. Structurally, this part is rigidly welded to the upper part of the power shaft and acts as the contact base for the ratchet mechanism used to adjust the machine's front clearance. Its primary task is to ensure convenient, metered, and controlled rotation of the screw under load.
In the kinematic scheme of the lifting assembly, the daisy wheel works in conjunction with the handle ZP 01.060 and the moving pawl ZP 01.401, forming a ratchet mechanism. Thanks to the reversible design of the pawl, the assembly allows the screw to be rotated in both directions (for raising and lowering the frame) using simple reciprocating lever movements. This engineering solution frees the operator from the need to rotate the handle in a full circle — with each movement, the screw rotates by a precisely defined angle, smoothly changing the working height of the massive unit. This allows the operator to accurately transition the machine from transport position to working position, lowering the scraper feeders directly to the threshing floor surface for efficient material intake.

Visually and engineering-wise, the Z-9 daisy wheel is a massive metal disk with nine deep slots cut along its outer contour, forming strong trapezoidal teeth. In the classic design, this part is not a detachable unit — it is rigidly welded with a continuous seam to the upper part of the ZP 01.070 lifting screw, forming a monolithic T-shaped base for the subsequent installation of the rotating handle ZP 01.060. The number of teeth (Z-9) is a precisely calculated parameter that ensures the optimal shaft rotation angle per lever stroke, allowing the operator to adjust the unit's front frame clearance in a metered and controlled manner.
For the stable operation of the ratchet mechanism under the loads of heavy new-generation machines, the gear is manufactured from high-quality Steel 40. Choosing this specific grade of steel is a rational step, as it is balanced in terms of hardness with the metal of the moving pawl ZP 01.401 and the screw shaft itself. The use of compatible metals in the rigid engagement zone guarantees uniform wear of contact surfaces without chipping the sharp edges of the teeth during jerks. Furthermore, this steel ensures an ultra-strong welded connection to the shaft, which reliably holds torque and does not shear under load. For farms with higher equipment utilization intensity, this gear can be manufactured from even stronger metal grades specially adapted for extreme working conditions on the threshing floor.
Related Components of the Ratchet Wheel (Daisy Wheel) Z-9
Since the daisy wheel does not function autonomously but acts as the central link for torque transmission, its wear or replacement requires mandatory inspection of the assemblies with which it is in direct contact. During maintenance of the ratchet mechanism (jack), attention must be paid to the condition of the following parts:
- Screw ZP 01.070
The power shaft on whose shank the gear wheel is mounted. - Pawl ZP 01.401
The moving reversible locking element that interacts directly with the daisy wheel teeth. - Handle ZP 01.060
The drive lever on which the pawl is attached (elongated straight or standard). - Special nut ZP 01.101
The support part that works in a pair with the screw.
In the classic factory design, the daisy wheel has a smooth, round internal hole and is intended for rigid, non-detachable mounting — it is permanently welded to the shank of the lifting screw. However, to optimize field service and increase mechanism reliability under extreme loads, the geometry of the part's mounting seat can be changed. Instead of a standard round hole, ratchet wheels are manufactured with square, hexagonal, or special keyway internal profiles.
This profile configuration makes the assembly fully detachable. The modernized daisy wheel is fitted tightly onto the corresponding shaft faces and rigidly fixed from above with a locking pin, ring, or cap bolt. This engineering solution offers two significant advantages — firstly, all torsional loads are now borne by the internal faces of the wheel metal, completely removing the risk of shearing the weld seam while lifting the unit's heavy frame; and secondly, replacing a worn or broken gear rim or sprocket no longer requires additional work or auxiliary tools — the operator can perform repairs right on the threshing floor by removing the lock and installing a new part in minutes. If necessary, or to achieve absolute monolithic integrity, this detachable connection can always be additionally welded with metal. Furthermore, according to individual farm requirements, it is possible to manufacture daisy wheels from alloy steels or with a slightly modified tooth profile for non-standard pawls for units operating in ultra-heavy conditions.
Buy Ratchet Wheel (Daisy Wheel) Z-9 at Zavod Moroza
Zavod Moroza's production practice is based on strict adherence to metal processing technologies and an understanding of the harsh working conditions of equipment on the threshing floor. When manufacturing Z-9 gear wheels, we use reliable structural Steel 40, the hardness of which is calculated and balanced with the metal of the moving pawl for uniform wear. If the part is ordered assembled with the screw, welding is performed exclusively in special spatial jigs — this approach ensures strict perpendicularity of the rim relative to the shaft axis, eliminates axial runout, and guarantees precise pawl engagement at the full depth of the tooth profile without slippage.
At our facility, you can buy both a classic daisy wheel blank with a round hole for independent welding and order an improved detachable modification with a mounting seat for a keyway or a corresponding polygon. We maintain a constant stock of standard parts in the warehouse for prompt shipment, which allows you to get your unit back in operation quickly.
Contact our sales department to select components — we understand the structural differences of equipment from various generations and will help you professionally select parts taking into account the configuration of your specific lifting mechanism.
