Wheel Hub ZPT 1007 of the Front Travel ZM-60U/90U/120U

The wheel hub ZPT 1007 is the main support-rotary assembly of the modern two-wheel front travel for the ZM series grain loaders manufactured by our plant (ZM-60U/90U/120U). Although the marking on the cast iron housing may seem familiar to machine operators from the era of classic single-wheel struts, the modern hub features re-engineered and improved design solutions. At the same time, its external dimensions and mounting specs remain unchanged, ensuring absolute interchangeability with machines of previous production runs.

The primary task of this part remains unchanged: to ensure the free and smooth rotation of the rubber-coated wheel. In the design of our modernized front travel, this process occurs on the side journals of the OVI 01.023 axle and involves two ZPT 1.6.2 wheels (or SMM 01.090, depending on the modification) simultaneously. The hub continuously absorbs significant radial and axial loads from the weight of the machine's front end, acting as a reliable connecting link between the axle and the wheel. The ease of maneuvering and the stability of the massive grain loader on the threshing floor depend entirely on the integrity and proper function of this component.

Design Features of the Hub ZPT 1007

The ZPT 1007 hub is a massive cast iron casting (optionally, for extreme operating conditions, it can be manufactured from steel upon individual request), where the central geometric element of the part is a square flange with four mounting holes for securing the rubber-coated wheel disc. On both sides of the flange, external cylindrical surfaces of different diameters are formed, and the housing also includes a special channel for a grease nipple, allowing for regular lubrication of the internal space without removing the wheel.

Major design changes were applied to the smooth internal through-hole of the part, where instead of outdated roller bushings that failed quickly due to contamination, the modern ZPT 1007 assembly is equipped with a pair of reinforced metal-ceramic slide bushings A 40x50x25. Metal-ceramic material is capable of withstanding significantly higher static and impact loads and demonstrates excellent wear resistance when working in the abrasive environment of a threshing floor. The protection system for this internal assembly has also changed: in the old design, the outer end of the hub was covered with a standard stamped cap and washer, while in the modernized two-wheel travel, this function is performed by a massive special washer ZP 01.020.001. It is installed at the end and bolted directly to the OVI 01.023 wheel axle, performing a dual engineering function: it acts as a reliable end stop that prevents the bushings from axial displacement, and it also works as a sealed dust cover, reliably protecting the hub's internal space from dust and dirt ingress.

Repair Features of Hub ZPT 1007 + Replacement of Adjacent Parts

During the inspection of the ZPT 1007 hub, the contact group of adjacent wheel assembly parts must be checked:

  • Wheel axle OVI 01.023
  • Rubber-coated wheel ZPT 1.6.2 (or SMM 01.090 depending on modification)
  • Metal-ceramic bushing A 40x50x25
  • Washer (end/protective) ZP 01.020.001
  • Grease nipple M10x1
  • Fastening elements (M8x25 bolts for the washer, M12x40 for the wheel)

Hub wear is most often related to poor lubrication or the ingress of abrasives into the assembly. If the grease nipple is clogged or lubricant is supplied irregularly, the metal-ceramic bushings A 40x50x25 begin to run "dry," leading to rapid abrasion and the appearance of radial play. The result of such play is wheel wobbling, which may gradually wear down the metal on the OVI 01.023 axle journals. Checking the condition of the end washer ZP 01.020.001 is also important: if its mounting bolts loosen, the assembly's seal is compromised, and grain dust can get inside, acting like sandpaper. Regarding external loads, one should monitor the state of the rubber-coated wheels: heavily worn rubber or deformed rims create vibrations that can trigger fatigue cracks on the massive cast iron flange of the hub.

Thanks to the transition to metal-ceramic sleeve bearings, the modern hub has gained a significant margin of operational endurance; this assembly is perfectly adapted to static loads and the aggressive conditions of a threshing floor. Proper technical maintenance completely eliminates the risk of premature failure, and regular greasing via the standard nipple, monitoring of bolt tightness, and the integrity of the protective end washer guarantee stable, smooth, and long-lasting operation of the unit's wheel base.
