Outer Front Travel Yoke ZM-60/60A (ZP 01.050)
The outer yoke ZP 01.050 is a key load-bearing element of the front travel (ZP 01.020) structure of the ZM-60, ZM-60A series grain loaders and their modifications. This massive part performs the function of the main connecting unit between the unit's frame and its steering and wheel bases. It is attached to the main frame of the machine, therefore it absorbs the greatest static and dynamic loads when moving heavy equipment across the working area. Structurally, the outer yoke serves as a robust outer housing (guide), inside of which the inner yoke (ZP 01.040) with a rubber-coated wheel (ZPT 1.6.2) is placed and moves, and the screw lifting mechanism is based on its upper platform. Such an engineering architecture provides a reliable support and correct spatial geometry for the functioning of the maneuvering systems and the height adjustment of the front section of the grain loader when transferring it from the transport position to the working one and vice versa.
Design Features of the Front Travel Yoke ZM-60/60A (ZP 01.050)
The outer yoke ZP 01.050 is a rigid all-welded structure made of high-quality sheet metal. The basis of the assembly is a massive upper support plate 8 mm thick, on which the steering and lift drive elements are mounted. The main housing (sidewalls or cheeks) of the yoke is manufactured from 6 mm thick steel, which provides the necessary rigidity while maintaining the optimal weight of the assembly. For units operating in harsh conditions or on uneven surfaces, we also manufacture reinforced modifications where the metal thickness is increased by 2 mm or more, which significantly increases the safety margin against tearing and deformation.
In the overall scheme of the ZM-60/60A front travel, this part performs the role of the main guide, where, in interaction with the inner yoke, it serves as a housing in which the inner yoke moves vertically during the adjustment of the loading height or when transferring the machine into transport mode. Precise vertical slots are provided in the side walls of the yoke, which act as guides for the support wheel axle - this allows the wheel to freely "work out" the unevenness of the threshing floor, implementing the contour-following principle. The nut of the lifting screw or the bearing housing (depending on the modification) is rigidly fixed on the upper platform of the yoke, and a screw with a large steering sprocket attached to it passes through the central hole.
Features of Repair Associated with Replacing the Yoke ZP 01.050 on ZM-60/60A
When replacing the outer yoke ZP 01.050 or carrying out a major overhaul of the ZM-60/60A front travel, the adjacent elements of the mechanism usually require attention as well. We maintain a full range of parts interacting with this assembly:
- Inner yoke ZP 01.040
- Lifting screw ZP 01.070
- Special nut ZP 01.101
- Steering sprocket ZP 01.402
- Wheel axle ZP 01.601
- Wheel hub ZPT 1007
- Bushings (including roller ones), springs, plates, bars, washers, bolts, nuts, pins, cotter pins, grease nipples, and other small elements of this assembly
Such an approach to kitting allows restoring the geometry and operability of the entire assembly in a single maintenance cycle, avoiding premature wear of new parts, including due to play in old connections.
Factory Modifications and Compatibility of the Yoke ZP 01.050 on ZM-60/60A
Historically, ZM-60 type grain loaders have been produced by various machine-building enterprises for decades, and because of this, the design of the outer yoke ZP 01.050 may have a number of factory differences. Most often, the difference lies in the shape of the upper platform - it can be a classic open one or equipped with a massive welded shroud to protect the position adjustment mechanism. The seating locations for the lifting system may also differ - depending on whether a special large nut or a bearing housing is installed on top. The specialists of the Zavod Moroza have thoroughly studied all these engineering nuances - we maintain in stock universal yoke variants that fit perfectly onto the frames of most units. If necessary, we have all the technical capabilities to promptly manufacture a part with non-standard mounting dimensions exactly matching the configuration of your machine.
Besides restoring the standard factory geometry, we offer effective engineering solutions to improve the handling characteristics of the grain loader. All of them are based on modifying the design of the outer yoke:
- Adaptation for a 500 mm wheel
Since the vertical guide slots for the axle are located in the walls of the outer yoke, installing enlarged wheels (from OVS cleaners) requires a recalculation of this assembly. For such tasks, we manufacture a modified outer yoke with an altered slot geometry and adapted wall length - this guarantees that when the axle is raised, the travel reserve of the screw mechanism will be exactly enough to completely lower the scraper feeders to the very surface of the site. - Dual wheels (our ZM-60U modification)
To significantly improve controllability, we manufacture a special execution of the yoke designed to work with dual wheels and an extended axle. Installing two wheels instead of one radically changes the physics of the unit's mass distribution - thanks to the optimized load on the strut, this modernization significantly increases the overall stability of the machine, makes it maximally obedient during manual maneuvering, and substantially eases the rotation of the steering wheel.
In addition to all these wheelbase changes, we perform a number of targeted engineering modifications to the yoke for specific operating conditions. For example, for farms with extremely uneven warehouse floors and high thresholds, the manufacture of a reinforced version with additional internal stiffening ribs and an increased thickness of the upper support plate is available, which completely eliminates metal deformation under strong shock loads. A separate technological solution to facilitate maintenance is the application of special lubrication grooves (for example, spiral or mesh type) to the internal contact surfaces and guides of the assembly, which will ensure a more even distribution of grease over the entire friction area, thanks to which the moving elements do not seize up and do not block after a long winter downtime, and the adjustment mechanism itself operates smoothly even in a very dusty environment. Furthermore, upon individual request, it is possible to weld on special brackets to install a reliable band brake system (instead of using the standard retainer on the frame) - our ZM-60U series grain loaders are already serially equipped with such mounts, and this modification has received numerous positive reviews from owners, as the band brake allows smoothly and precisely locking the steering mechanism, reliably holding the set direction of the front travel both during transportation of the heavy unit and in the working mode.
Main Causes of Breakdowns of the Front Travel Yoke ZM-60/60A
The outer yoke ZP 01.050 takes on the power load from the entire mass of the front section of the unit, and despite the massive steel structure, harsh operating conditions eventually lead to irreversible changes in its spatial geometry. The grain loader often has to be moved over potholed surfaces of the threshing floor or rolled over high thresholds of warehouse premises, and constant shock loads and working vibration accumulate fatigue in the metal, which provokes the appearance of microcracks and the rupture of welded joints between the support plate and the side cheeks. Under severe lateral impacts, the walls of the outer yoke can deform, and since it serves as a strict guide sleeve for the inner yoke, any warping or "bulging" of the box leads to the fact that it begins to jam or, conversely, acquires excessive play. As a result, this makes smooth height adjustment impossible and creates destructive loads on the lifting screw.
A separate but very common cause of critical breakdowns is the human factor, in particular, violation of transportation rules. The factory manual strictly regulates that when towing the unit, the speed should not exceed 5 km/h, and the front travel must necessarily be rotated by 180 degrees. Due to the specific geometry of the strut, which has a structural overhang, towing the grain loader in the normal working steering position is a gross mistake - in this case, the front wheel does not stabilize, but begins to uncontrollably thrash from side to side. At the same time, the massive outer yoke receives colossal lateral dynamic shock loads acting on bending, which are guaranteed to warp the integrated steering shaft or irreversibly bend the load-bearing plate.
Understanding the realities of field operation, when it is not always possible to adhere to ideal speed limits, we build a significantly greater safety margin into our reinforced yoke modifications - they hold geometry much more stably under abnormal dynamic loads and are able to "forgive" the operator certain transportation flaws. At the same time, if your old part has already undergone deformations, you should not try to artisanally weld torn seams or straighten the walls with a sledgehammer, since it is practically impossible to restore the perfect parallelism of the guides in field conditions, and further operation with a misalignment will quickly destroy new adjacent parts. Installing a new factory-made yoke is the only reliable way to return the correct kinematics to the mechanism.
