Chopper-Roller (Sunflower, Corn) / Chopping Roller KP-6

The KP-6 chopper-roller is a powerful 6-meter implement for the professional post-harvest tillage of fields sown with high-stalk crops (sunflower, corn) and rapeseed. Its task is to effectively mulch stubble and coarse plant residues, partially forming a protective layer (mulch) that prevents soil wind erosion, regulates its temperature, and conserves moisture. The chopped biomass decomposes faster, returning vital nutrients to the soil and providing valuable organic nutrition for the future harvest.

Unlike light analogues, which often simply "roll over" thick stalks, the KP-6 chopper-roller has a large weight (up to 2600 kg with water), which guarantees the quality chopping of even rigid residues. A unique feature of the model is the fan-like arrangement of knives with a spiral offset: this geometry ensures smooth running without impact loads on the bearings and concentrates the entire pressure of the implement on a small cutting area, ensuring guaranteed stalk chopping instead of pressing them into the soil.

Features of the cutting unit operation of the KP-6 chopper-roller from Zavod Moroza

The high efficiency of the KP-6 chopper-roller produced by our company is based on combining the high mass of the implement with the unique geometry of knife arrangement. Zavod Moroza engineers abandoned continuous straight blades in favor of a segmented design to solve the main problem of classic choppers: poor chopping of wet or thick stalks, uneven knife wear, and soil sticking (drum clogging).

1. Maximum pressure at the knife edge
The knives on the KP-6 chopper-roller drums are arranged in separate segments with an offset, forming a single cutting spiral. Thanks to this, a minimal number of blades (1-2 units) contacts the soil at any moment, which creates a colossal concentration of the implement's entire mass (up to 2600 kg) on the edge of one knife. This peak pressure allows the knife to operate on the guillotine principle, guaranteed to chop even the toughest and most moist corn or sunflower stalks, instead of simply pressing them into the soft soil.

2. "Fan-like" entry into the soil
The cutting elements on the drum are offset from each other in a way that ensures sequential and soft knife immersion into the soil without forming "dead zones." This geometry completely eliminates impact vibrations on the frame and bearings, allowing the roller to operate smoothly and not "jump" across the field. Furthermore, it creates a self-cleaning effect—even when working on moist soil or a large mass of green stubble, the drum does not clog, as mud does not have a continuous surface to stick to.

3. Reinforced knife fastening + 10 mm steel
We use knives with increased metal thickness - 10 mm. In addition, each blade is fixed on the drum not just with bolts, but through a special solid overlay (response plate), which acts as a stiffening rib, reliably pressing the blade along its entire length and preventing its bending under impact loads. This solution guarantees uniform wear of the cutting edge along its entire length, without the "sag" in the middle characteristic of other analogues, which significantly extends the overall resource of the set.

4. Fine mulch fraction (9 rows of knives)
To achieve maximum chopping quality, we increased the number of cutting rows on the drum to 9 (unlike the standard 8 or 7 in most analogues). This design solution reduced the cutting step, allowing plant residues to be chopped into finer fragments 5-12 cm long. This fine mulch lies much denser on the field surface, creating a uniform protective screen, decomposes much faster, and does not create obstacles for seeder openers during the subsequent sowing campaign.

Design advantages of the KP-6 chopper-roller from Zavod Moroza

The implement's design is based on many years of dialogue with agronomists and farm engineers, which allowed eliminating the "weak points" typical of standard choppers. We combined record metal content with the use of premium components, creating a machine ready for extreme loads.

The combination of a powerful frame with an 8 mm wall and industrial hydraulics of Ukrainian production gives the structure exceptional endurance. Zavod Moroza engineers primarily focused on increasing the reliability of the rotating assemblies, as one of the main problems of rollers is the destruction of bearing units from impacts. We solved this radically by replacing brittle cast iron housings with ultra-strong steel castings of our own production, which do not crack under peak impact loads and guarantee the integrity of the assembly throughout the entire service life of the implement. An reinforced spherical roller bearing 22309 is installed inside, which, unlike conventional ball bearings, withstands colossal radial loads and compensates for shaft misalignment when working on uneven surfaces. A high shaft strength reserve is guaranteed by using a solid steel bar with a diameter of 60 mm, which makes its deformation impossible even with full ballast loading.

We also worked on increasing the overall resource and efficiency of the cutting part, implementing the use of reinforced knives with increased metal thickness (10 mm), which are fixed through a special clamping plate with high-strength bolts (class 10.9). This approach gives the structure monolithic rigidity and prevents blade bending. The cutting edge (tip) of the chopper-rollers from Zavod Moroza undergoes mandatory thermal hardening, which allows them to hold their edge longer even on hard soils. The knives have a double-sided sharpening, which virtually doubles their resource; if one side becomes dull, work can be restored right in the field - simply unscrew the bolts and flip the knife over, getting a "new" set without downtime and unnecessary costs.

Understanding the importance of versatility and adaptation of equipment to different needs, we built possibilities for more flexible adjustment and transformation into the roller's design. Thanks to water-ballasted drums, you can increase the roller's weight up to 2600 kg for working on dry, hard soil or reduce it for wet conditions. Furthermore, the possibility of replacing the chopping drums with ring-and-spike or other types of rollers is provided (option). Incidentally, the working discs of these interchangeable modules are also manufactured by us using the method of ultra-strong steel casting in our own production, which guarantees them exceptional resistance to impacts and splitting, unlike common cast iron analogues.

Aggregation of the KP-6 chopper-roller from Zavod Moroza

The KP-6 chopper-roller is designed to work with a wide range of tractors, starting from the most common class 1.4 (MTZ-82, MTZ-892) - thanks to the optimized design, a tractor with 80 hp is capable of confidently working with the implement in basic configuration (without water) at a speed of 12-15 km/h, ensuring quality chopping.

However, to unlock the full potential of the implement (working with a maximum weight of 2600 kg and at a speed of 20 km/h to create peak impact load), we recommend using tractors with a power of 100-130 hp (tractors of class 1.4-2.0, for example MTZ-1025, MTZ-1221, or their imported analogues). Such a power reserve allows maintaining a stably high speed even on wet and hilly fields, guaranteeing impeccable cutting quality.

Hydraulic system of the KP-6 chopping roller produced by Zavod Moroza

The wing folding system is built on the basis of a powerful hydraulic cylinder manufactured by "Hydrosila" (Ukraine), which guarantees stable operation and easy access to repair kits (seals/o-rings) in any region if necessary. We use reinforced high-pressure hydraulic hoses (HPH) with double reinforcement, resistant to pressure surges and external damage. The hydraulic system of the implement is fully adapted to work with both domestic tractors (MTZ, KhTZ) and modern imported equipment (John Deere, Case, New Holland) - it is designed to operate in a wide pressure range and is equipped with standard quick-release couplings, ensuring hassle-free connection to any tractor without adapters. Converting the roller from transport to working position takes mere minutes and is easily performed by the operator. In the folded state, the implement has compact dimensions, allowing convenient and safe travel on roads and field paths.

Advantages of buying the KP-6 chopper-roller at Zavod Moroza

We ensure a full production cycle of the implement, allowing quality control at every stage - from high-precision metal cutting to final testing. A key advantage of our production is our own foundry, where unique steel bearing housings are manufactured. Unlike common fragile cast iron analogues, our steel castings withstand peak impact loads without the risk of cracking, which guarantees the integrity of the assembly in the toughest field conditions.

The design of the KP-6 frame is developed with a focus on long-term versatility. By purchasing this implement, you gain a reliable base for functional expansion - if necessary, the chopping sections can be easily replaced with ring-and-spike or other types of rollers (working organs of which are also made of ultra-strong steel casting). This solution allows transforming the chopper into a roller for pre-sowing consolidation without the need to purchase a separate machine. Cooperation directly with the manufacturer is also a guarantee of prompt service. We constantly maintain a full warehouse stock of all consumables (knives, fasteners, bearings), so you can always count on the immediate shipment of necessary spare parts and qualified technical support in any region of Ukraine.

Implementing the KP-6 chopper-roller into the technological chain is the simplest way to increase soil fertility and simplify spring sowing. The absence of seeder clogging problems, soil enrichment with organic nutrients, conserved winter moisture, and a clean field are the direct result of our implement's work. We offer a proven design that will pay for itself due to its durability and agronomic effect already in the first seasons of operation.
