ZP 01.220 Reverse Gear Assembly with Wheels (Symmetric)
The ZP 01.220 symmetric reverse gear assembly with wheels is a fully integrated running axle designed for installation on ZM-60U and ZM-90U grain throwers, as well as for modernizing classic ZM-60 machines. The assembly secures to the lower frame using four H 026.058 cast-iron bearing housings and serves to receive torque from the self-propelled gearbox via drive chains, transferring it to both driving wheels.
The primary kinematic feature of this axle is its symmetric drive layout: two identical ZP 01.625 cam half-axles with dual disengagement mechanisms are installed on both sides. Unlike the obsolete asymmetric setup (where the right half-axle was blind), the symmetric drive allows operators to disengage both wheels from the transmission simultaneously. During transport or manual relocation, the wheels spin freely on cermet bushings without rotating the self-propelled gearbox elements, entirely eliminating parasitic load on the gear trains.
Supplying the reverse gear fully pre-assembled with two ZPT 1.6.2 rubber-tired wheels enables a complete running gear overhaul in a single step—saving workshop time otherwise spent pressing in cermet bushings, adjusting cam clutch clearances, and mounting tires.

- Complete wheel base: 2 rubber-tired wheels ZPT 1.6.2 (400 mm diameter, 100 mm width, 6 mm steel disk, pressed-on IZ 2162 tire) with M12 mounting bolts
The symmetric drive is built upon two mirrored ZP 01.625 half-axles. Longitudinal slots are milled onto each shaft to allow the ZP 01.102 cam half-clutch to slide smoothly. Under operational conditions, the ZP 01.626 heavy-duty spring keeps the clutch cams engaged with the ZM 01.180 hub slots. When the operator pulls both clutches outward until locked by the spring-loaded ZP 01.631 latches, both hubs enter free-wheeling mode on the NEN 400003 bushings, eliminating rotational drag and protecting the self-propelled gearbox during transport.
The entire weight of the grain thrower's rear section rests on four cast-iron H 026.058 housings. The internal spherical double-row 11206 bearings clamp tightly onto the smooth 30 mm shafts using H207 tapered sleeves. The spherical raceway of the outer bearing ring self-aligns within the housing, compensating for shaft deflection caused by machine weight or frame skew. Cast-iron H 026.163 covers fitted with 30x52 mm reinforced lip seals form a tight barrier that retains grease and blocks grain dust infiltration.
Both ZP 01.340 drive sprockets feature a smooth 30 mm inner bore and secure to the half-axles via ZP 01.646 shear pins. Fabricated from Steel 35 with precisely engineered shear thresholds, these pins shear first if foreign objects jam the wheels, instantly breaking the drive connection to protect chains and gearbox gears from destruction.

The classic ZM-60 reverse gear featured a blind right half-axle ZP 01.627 and a fixed ZM 01.104 hub—a layout that generated persistent resistance when moving the grain thrower because the right wheel was forced to spin internal gearbox components. Transitioning to the symmetric design utilizing two ZP 01.625 cam half-axles eliminates this drawback, making towing effortless and safe for the transmission.
Manufacturing practices for reverse gear parts across various producers and generations have experienced design updates. For instance, keyways for the ZP 01.102 clutch are machined extended to smooth out longitudinal travel during disengagement. Additionally, instead of the classic ZP 01.629 release button, which tended to slip out of greasy hands, modern axles utilize a convenient metal ring that is easy to catch even while wearing thick work gloves.
The factory ZM 01.180 hub flange is universal: classic series mount 400 mm ZPT 1.6.2 rubber-tired wheels, whereas modernized ZM-60U and ZM-90U units built in-house accept reinforced 500 mm wheels sourced from OVS-25 grain cleaners on the same hubs, increasing ground clearance and operational convenience.
