The ZP 01.220 reverse axle in a symmetric assembly with wheels is a fully integrated, adjusted, and ready-to-install next-generation running axle for self-propelled ZM-60U, ZM-90U grain throwers and similar wheeled grain loaders of the ZM, ZZP, and ZMB models. This assembly serves as the primary support-and-drive base for the rear section of the agricultural machine, absorbing and evenly distributing static and dynamic loads from the weight of working components, loading trimmer, electric motors, and the self-propelled gearbox. The primary engineering difference of the upgraded axle lies in its transition to a fully symmetric drive layout featuring two individual cam clutches, ensuring maximum maneuverability and complete gearbox protection during transport.

The complete transition to a symmetric layout and simplified towing is a key engineering solution in upgrading the reverse axle. The classic Soviet-designed rear axle was built on an asymmetric principle-the left half-axle featured a disengagement clutch, while the right remained blind. When towing or manually pushing such a machine, the blind right wheel continued to forcibly rotate and spin internal gears and differential satellites inside the self-propelled gearbox, creating excessive movement resistance and causing premature transmission wear. The new symmetric design completely eliminates this drawback because both sides are equipped with identical reinforced ZP 01.625 half-axles and ZP 01.102 cam clutches. When the operator manually pulls both clutches back until locked by the ZP 01.631 spring-loaded pins, both hubs enter a free-rolling mode on 30x40x25 mm cermet bushings, fully severing the kinematic link between the wheels and the drive, reducing rolling resistance to zero, and reliably protecting the gearbox during transport.

Reinforced drive shafts and secure keyed sprocket locking guarantee uninterrupted transmission performance under any conditions. The axle base relies on two symmetric 30 mm diameter ZP 01.625 shafts manufactured from high-grade steel. Designers completely eliminated weakening circular grooves for retaining rings and transverse through-holes for safety shear pins, which acted as dangerous stress concentrators on classic shafts and led to axle breakage under load. Instead of a vulnerable pin connection-whose reliability in field conditions frequently drew criticism due to shearing-the new layout secures ZP 01.340 drive sprockets using prismatic keys and clamping set screws, eliminating backlash, preventing axial component displacement, and ensuring stable torque transmission without the risk of sudden emergency machinery halts at the threshing floor.

A durable cermet support base and reliable dust protection significantly extend the overall service life of the entire running axle. Both drive wheels mount to massive ZM 01.180 cam hubs, inside of which two micro-porous self-lubricating 30x40x25 mm standard bushings are pressed using specialized hydraulic press equipment. With clutches disengaged, the wheels spin effortlessly on these bushings without wearing adjacent parts and components. The running axle itself rests on four spherical double-row 11206 bearings mounted inside massive H 026.058 cast-iron housings. The spherical bearing design automatically compensates for potential shaft deflections under heavy machine weight and minor misalignments of frame mounting surfaces. To protect against pervasive grain dust, bearing chambers are sealed with H 026.163 cast-iron covers equipped with clamped 30x52 mm reinforced oil seals, securely retaining grease inside and preventing abrasive raceway wear.

Installation and Maintenance Features of the Grain Thrower Reverse Axle

Supplying the reverse axle fully factory-assembled with wheels allows for a complete overhaul or modernization of the running axle within minutes directly at the threshing floor. You no longer need to independently press in bushings, mount bearing assemblies, adjust clutch clearances, or undertake complex tire mounting on the farm.

Prior to installation, clearing dirt and rust from the mounting points on the grain thrower frame is recommended. The assembled half-axles are rolled beneath the machine, after which the mounting feet of the four H 026.058 cast-iron housings bolt directly into the standard holes of the load-bearing frame. Next, PRL-19.05 roller chains from the self-propelled gearbox are looped over the drive sprockets. For corrosion protection and simplified initial assembly, bearing units ship with light factory preservation grease; before initial operation, bearing housing chambers must be filled with consistency grease (professional pre-lubrication or separate grease supply available upon request). Accessible grease zerk fittings built into the bearing covers facilitate routine maintenance, allowing easy greasing during subsequent operation without disassembling the unit.
